All explanations are written for right-handers. For left-handers, reverse the order of the hands. The images used represent a guitar tab. If your instrument has fewer strings the principle remains the same except that you will see fewer strings on the tablature.

CHORDS
This diagram represents a guitar neck. The vertical lines are the strings, the big strings is on the left and the little strings is on the right. The horizontal lines are the frets. The end of the handle with the keys is at the top. The circles with numbers represent the fingers of the left hand (1 = index finger, 2 = middle finger, 3 = ring finger, 4 = little finger). The small circles above the strings represent the strings to play without a finger on them and the X the strings not to play. If there are numbers to the left of the chord they represent the number of the frets, otherwise they are frets 1, 2, 3, 4 and 5. In addition, use our chord sheet to write your own chords.
MAJOR CHORDS
A major chord consists of the first, third and fifth note of its scale (example in C: C, E and G). The first note always gives it its name.
MINOR CHORDS
A minor chord is made up of the first note in its scale, the third lowered by a semitone and fifth (example in C minor: C, E flat and G).
DOMINANT 7 CHORDS
A 7 chord consists of the first, third and fifth note of its scale as well as the seventh lowered by a semitone (example in C 7: C, E, G and B-flat).
MAJOR 7 CHORDS
A major 7 chord consists of the first, third, fifth and seventh note of its scale (example in C major 7: C, E, G and B).
MINOR 7 CHORDS
A minor 7 chord consists of the first, the third lowered by a semitone, the fifth note in its scale as well as the seventh lowered by a semitone (example in C minor 7: C, E flat, G and if flat).
MINOR 7b5 CHORDS
A minor 7 flat 5 chord consists of the first note of its scale, the third lowered by a semitone, the fifth lowered by a semitone and the seventh lowered by a semitone (example in C minor 7 flat 5: C, E flat, B flat and B flat).
NOTES
Here is a diagram of the location of all the notes on the fretboard as well as the musical note writing for the first position. You will also find blank musical staves for your compositions.

Here is a diagram of the different rhythmic values in 2/4, 3/4 and 4/4.
